Philips Avent 3-in-1 Electric Steam Sterilizer - Product Review

This is a "Philips Avent 3-in-1 Electric Steam Sterilizer" product review post. In this post, i will discuss the benefits of it, why it's a must buy item and its drawbacks.

Note: Parents who are using either Philips Avent or Dr. brown's or any other brand's feeding bottles should continue to read this post as this sterilizer works for almost all types of feeding bottles.

We have been using this product for cleaning both Dr. brown's and Philips Avent bottles without any size fitting issues. Dr. brown's bottles fit into this (in tilted position) easily. So it is suitable for both wide / narrow neck bottles. it can fit in bottles having max. capacity of 330 ml.

Why buy: I and my wife, earlier were having lot many issues while washing the bottles. We used to boil water first in a bowl and then immerse washed bottles inside it to sterilize them. This was not only time consuming activity but we were always worried what if the bottles melt in such hot water. The other issue we faced was lot of water wastage because of this bottle cleaning activity. So we started studying online for an alternative, an easier way for bottle sterilization. We came across the Philips sterilizer. Without any second thoughts, we immediately purchased it from Amazon.

Result: We are more than happy now for the decision made. It not only saved time but also reduced lot of water wastage.

Ups:
- It is BPA free sterilizer.
- it does cleaning, washing and sterilizing all in one steam wash. So it's called a 3 in 1 sterilizer.
- it does not occupy much space.
- its easy to use
- Aesthetically designed
- Multi colored

Main Advantages:
- It kills 99% of bacteria in one steam wash.
- It can be used to clean any brand's bottles upto 330 ml capacity.
- it's quick, convenient to use, requires no technical knowledge to install and use.
- Bottles cleaned are free from dust particles, powder particles and cloth threads (if any).
- Saves a lot of water as it consumes only 30-40 ml of water in one steam wash to clean a set of 3-4 bottles.
- Does sterilization in roughly 6-7 minutes. it automatically shuts off once sterilization is done.
- Saves lot of time especially for working parents.
- Takes minimal space in kitchen
- it comes with a 2 year Warranty from Philips
- it works on 220V power and its electricity consumption is also low.

Drawbacks:
- The metal plate (heating element) on which the water is poured, corrodes easily and frequently after every sterilization. You need to regularly wash and clean the plate with vinegar (kept overnight) to remove the scaling. We've been washing it frequently after every 3-4 times of usage. But it also depends on the water quality that is used to steam the bottles. If the water's too hard, the corrosion takes place faster.
- it does not work on inverter power.

Usage:
1. After washing the bottles, insert bottles in upside down position in 2 chambers of the sterilizer along with bottle parts.
2. Add 30-40 ml of water on the metal plate of sterilizer. Please make sure water is of good quality and not too hard. Prefer using water from the purifier.
3. Place the chambers on the lower body of the sterilizer.
4. Cover the top chamber with the lid.
5. Switch on the machine and let it steam wash the bottle. Will take around 5-6 minutes to complete 3-in-1 washing.

Caution:
- Please keep it away from young children.
- Do not immediately open the top lid once the machine is automatically cut-off. The steam inside it effuses so fast that it may burn your hand. Wait for machine to cool down and then open it.

Price: Rs. 3580/- (on Amazon)
